Paddle for a Purpose

THE POWER OF PURPOSE

Paddle For A Purpose is a special initiative in partnership with The Motz Group and Motz Moves. Joe Motz (Founder) will paddle a canoe he built himself 3,000 miles, sharing his journey, his passion for The Bridge Adaptive Sports & Recreation, and inviting others to propel the ripple effect of this splash-worthy cause. All funds that are contributed will directly benefit The Bridge. Donations will support the organization’s program quality, sustainability, and infrastructure.

We believe everyone should have access to opportunities that are physically challenging and bring joy. That's why Joe and Motz Moves wanted to team up with The Bridge. The Bridge team works every day to fulfill the mission of making it possible for people with disabilities to enjoy sports and recreation, and to move from surviving to thriving.

To avoid processing fees, you can make a donation by sending a check. Please make the check payable to The Bridge Adaptive Sports and Recreation, noting Paddle for a Purpose in the memo line.

JOE'S JOURNEY

LEG #1: 1,200 MILES

Joe set off with a flotilla of paddlers of all ability levels in Cincinnati on June 29, 2024. He headed down the Ohio to the confluence joining up with the Mississippi River. Joe then headed back to Cincinnati to make repairs and restock, then put back in just South of Chicago.

He paddled downstream from the Chicago area on the Illinois River, then joined up with the Mississippi down to the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi to complete this leg of the quest.

LEG #2: 1,060 MILES

Joe began the second leg of his journey in Perrysburg, OH on September 10, 2024. He first paddled along Lake Erie to Cleveland, OH.  Joe then followed the Cuyahoga River, portaged through Akron, OH, and made his way down the Tuscarawas and Muskingum Rivers. He joined the Ohio River at Marietta, OH.

Finally, Joe paddled up the Ohio River to Pittsburgh, PA, to the start of the Ohio River. He then made his way back down past Marietta and on to Portsmouth, Ohio to complete this leg of the quest.

about the bridge

At The Bridge Adaptive Sports & Recreation, their mission is to increase awareness and promote opportunities for individuals to participate in adaptive sports and recreation in order to improve their quality of life. They aim to be a bridge from the hospital to the community, being sedentary to active, unequipped to fully fitted, and so on for individuals with disabilities. They break down barriers to accessing sport and recreation.
