BUILD AND MAINTAIN YOUR TRACK
Let’s Assess Your Project
Whether you’re building a track from scratch, giving your existing facility a much-needed cleaning, or expanding from six lanes to eight, our Motz team will walk you through each step of the process. During the assessment phase we will:
Consider the location and square footage of your project
Understand your unique product and service needs
Identify your desired materials and colors
Work within your budget and schedule a projected timeline
Plan for safety concerns, ancillary infrastructure, and smart drainage
Schedule a site assessmentChoose Your Track’s Base
If you’re starting on a new build, you’ll need a foundational material. From choosing between latex and polyurethane materials to color and drainage considerations, our track experts will guide your project to completion.
Latex Track Systems
Constructed from black, recycled rubber, this track system is built with precision layering of rubber and latex glue to build up a ⅜ to ½ inch thickness. Latex tracks that are maintained well can withstand about 12 years of usage. We recommend resurfacing with fresh layering every 5-7 years.
Polyurethane Track Systems
Polyurethane tracks minimize wear and tear on athletes’ bodies by absorbing shock and protecting joints. We recommend resurfacing with fresh layering every 6-7 years. Choose from three polyurethane configurations:
A paved black base of polyurethane and rubber, sprayed colored wear coat on the surface. Re-spray every 5-7 years.
A 3-layer synthetic surface (typically 13mm thick) composed of a SBR rubber granule base mat, a sealed polyurethane pore sealer, and a top wear layer of EPDM granules.
A full-depth, custom-made colored rubber system for Division 1 budgets that’s mixed and poured on-site.

Design and Customize Your Track Facility
Your track facility should be long-lasting, high-performing, and aesthetically pleasing. Motz brings your vision to life with a track that’s unique to you.
Choose Your Colors: Most tracks are colored with standard UV-stable red, but the options don’t stop there. Through our vendors, Motz has access to numerous options that allow you to customize the facility. Match the track to your school’s colors or provide contrast in specific track areas like exchange zones.
Construct the Environment: In addition to the track, you need to consider fencing, lighting, spectating areas, lane width requirements, and safety best practices. Our team will work with you to incorporate these details as part of your track assessment.
Expand the Blueprint: Are you planning to expand your current lanes or add shot put and discus facilities? Consult with your Motz representative about moving current infrastructure to make room for the expansion. Choose locations for ancillary track event systems, either on the periphery or in the center open space.
Track Maintenance with Motz
Proper upkeep of your track facility will extend its life and allow your athletes to perform at their best. Motz offers various maintenance services, as well as tips and tricks that facility owners can follow, to minimize damage and promote longevity.
The Importance of Good Drainage
Water and inclement weather can hurt the integrity of an outdoor track. During construction, the Motz team will incorporate systems that direct the flow of water away from the track’s lanes and towards a drain or an adjacent field. Keeping your track dry will minimize cracking, pooling, and breakdown.
