The Motz Group Was Chosen To Build Two Natural Grass Practice Fields With A Customized AirPAT System For The Jacksonville Jaguars Miller Electric Center

The Motz AirPAT™ System gives Grounds Managers the ability to create championship fields by providing the tools they need to respond to Mother Nature.

Cincinnati OH – The Motz Group announced the Jacksonville Jaguars would use AirPAT™, a state-of-the-art rootzone management system, for the natural grass fields at their new training complex, Miller Electric Center. Under a turnkey contract, Motz will provide design services in close coordination with the project architect, Rossetti, and will handle the installation of all mechanical room components and the construction of two grass fields. The project is scheduled for completion in the Summer of 2023.

Motz’s trailblazing turf-growing technology, AirPAT, can control the effects of climate on natural grass fields, providing the exact solution the Jaguars wanted for their two grass practice fields. The Jaguars selected Motz because they are well-vetted sports field experts delivering a superior and innovative product to the market with their customizable AirPAT system. Their technology was developed by leveraging four decades of experience in the natural grass and synthetic turf industry.

AirPAT delivers a toolbox of advanced technologies that will help the Jaguars’ groundskeepers maintain a rootzone environment that promotes plant vigor across the extremes of north Florida weather. In addition to AirPAT’s vacuum and ventilation functions, Jacksonville also selected customized features for moisture management/water conservation and cutting-edge rootzone warming. Rootzone profile conditions will be continuously monitored using a series of soil moisture, temperature, and salinity sensors placed within both the subgrade piping network and the growing medium.

Data on rootzone conditions will be stored in the system’s touchscreen control panel. Custom software allows the grounds manager to display the data in various graphical formats. With remote access capabilities, the system can be operated offsite with a variety of smart devices, elevating the grounds manager’s decision-making process whether on-site or off.

“The Miller Electric Center will be a first-class facility to support the success of our players and coaches, and The Motz Group is a key contributor to our plans,” said Drew Frick, Jaguars Senior Vice President, of real estate and development. “We felt their AirPAT rootzone management technology will give the turf managers the perfect tools to create safe, playable, and aesthetically pleasing bermudagrass fields year-round.”

Jacksonville is the first NFL team to adopt the AirPAT technology, joining the Atlanta Braves (MLB), FC Cincinnati (TQL), and CommBank Stadium, in Sydney, Australia in leading the way with AirPAT’s game-changing technologies. This customized system provides ground managers with the tools they need to respond to Mother Nature and create an optimal surface for the players in any season. Mark Heinlein, Director of Technical Projects & Research at Motz says, “Innovation has always been a Motz core value. The introduction of AirPAT demonstrates our ongoing commitment to delivering new technology that drives the industry forward. It’s exciting to add the Jaguars and the NFL to our portfolio of professional sports clients.”
