As Columbia College continues to expand its athletic offerings, the need for a modern, high-performance competition surface became a key priority.
Located in Columbia, South Carolina, Younts Soccer Stadium serves as a central hub for multiple athletic programs, positioned adjacent to campus and other athletic facilities. (Go Koalas)
With the addition of new programs, including men’s and women’s lacrosse, and continued growth in soccer, the college made the decision to invest in a synthetic turf system that could support increased demand while elevating the overall student-athlete experience.
The result is a new turf field designed to deliver consistent performance, expanded usage, and long-term reliability across multiple sports.
The Situation
Supporting Program Expansion and Multi-Sport Use

This expansion placed new demands on Younts Stadium: increased daily usage across multiple teams, the need for a shared competition and training surface, maintaining consistent playability across different sports, minimizing downtime between events and practices.

A traditional natural grass surface would limit scheduling flexibility and require significant recovery time, creating constraints for a growing athletic department.

A Synthetic Turf System Built for Versatility
Motz installed a synthetic turf system at Younts Stadium designed to support multi-sport performance and year-round use.
The system was selected to provide: consistent playing conditions for soccer and lacrosse, high durability to withstand increased daily use, reduced recovery time between events, lower maintenance requirements compared to natural grass
By transitioning to synthetic turf, Columbia College created a surface capable of supporting both current programs and future growth.

Younts Stadium is now positioned as a shared home for: men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, team training sessions and practices, and campus and athletic events.
