Fairmont High School
Armed with two primary goals in mind for their synthetic turf fields, Fairmont reached out to The Motz Group to formulate a plan of action. That plan of action came in the form of cooperative purchasing. By leveraging cooperative purchasing, the school would be able to save the costs typically accumulated in a traditional bid process, fast-track their project to achieve their deadline, and work with a well-vetted vendor of their choice – in this case, The Motz Group. As a result, Motz was able successfully partner with Fairmont to execute the build of their two new, high performance synthetic turf fields, on time, under budget, resulting in a action-packed fall sports season.

In March of 2016, Fairmont High School celebrated the passing of their Permanent Improvement Levy. As a result of this victory, the school’s athletic program would be afforded the ability to replace the existing synthetic turf football field and build a new synthetic turf soccer field. These new fields would allow Fairmont the opportunity to execute additional practices, more games, physical education classes, facility rental, community events, and more, back-to-back on these all-weather surfaces. Though grateful and excited for the journey ahead, Fairmont had two specific goals they were looking to achieve in regards to the execution of their new synthetic turf surfaces. The first was to have these two fields completed on time and on budget, and the second was to be able to work with the vendor of their choice. The school obtained their first synthetic turf field through the competitive bid process, and though it proved to “get the job done,” it didn’t necessarily offer the perfect solution for Fairmont this time around.
With the fall sports season rapidly approaching, Fairmont had to look for creative ways to assure their fields would be ready within the desired schedule and set budget. A traditional procurement process would have placed the school outside of their target time line by nearly three to four months, potentially moving their completion date into the new year. The Motz Group, Ohio’s leading synthetic turf provider, started providing maintenance support for Fairmont’s existing field in late 2014. With their previous vendor not local and unable to offer rapid service, Fairmont called on Motz and a lasting partnership was built. On top of exceptional service and expertise, Motz offers an extensive line of products sure to meet any athletic facility’s needs. As a result, the school was confident that they wanted Motz to build their field, but with a traditional bidding process, there was no guarantee this would be the outcome.
