Project Overview
Soccer Holdings, LLC is the proud owner of Louisville City Football Club (USL championship club team), Racing Louisville (NWSL team), and a premier youth academy. To accommodate the needs of each team and its players, the company needed to build a facility with fields that would be supportive and last for years to come.
With the recent addition of the Racing Louisville team and their overall continued growth and success, Soccer Holdings, LLC decided to upgrade from its original training facility. The franchise moved locations and built a brand new soccer stadium in 2020. Following the move, Soccer Holdings, LLC looked to the Motz Group — for its natural grass and synthetic turf expertise — to install a new six field, weather-ready practice facility to enhance practices, elevating training sessions, and making play more competitive.
THE SITUATION
In order to manage growth in the coming years, the franchise needed a training facility that could meet the performance level of their professional athletic groups while also providing durable, top-quality fields for their Academy and the Greater Louisville community. So they set out to construct a new elite athletic training center with both natural and synthetic grass fields.
The franchise’s original facility couldn’t adequately support the long-term needs of its players. With multiple teams using the fields, it became an even more pressing concern. Soccer Holdings, LLC wanted to give their teams a competitive edge through high-performance natural and synthetic athletic fields.
THE PLAY
The Motz Group partnered with Louisville City FC & Racing Louisville FC to design and install a new practice facility — with 275,360 sq. ft. of high-performance natural grass fields and 331,230 sq. ft. of synthetic turf fields — this impressive facility was constructed for optimal space, usage, and performance.
The two natural turf fields are outfitted with high-quality, USGA specified, Bermuda grass — making them pristine surfaces for practices and gameplay. Their unique L-shaped design allows players to run in different patterns to ease wind resistance and change the wear of the field— a crucial component for playability and longevity of the fields. Motz designed the four synthetic turf fields for professional-level performance and durability, allowing for around-the-clock soccer.
