Project Overview
The Seven Hills School, a private school located in Cincinnati, Ohio, has been a valued field and maintenance customer of The Motz Group for over 10 years. Because of the school’s positive experience and growing relationship with The Motz Group on their first field installation, Seven Hills selected the company for its expertise as the General Contractor and installation expert on their new field. As a result, The Motz Group managed the entire construction and installation process, ultimately converting the school’s lower natural grass fields into first-rate synthetic turf fields — a multi-million dollar project.
The Situation
The private school wanted to convert its Lower field from natural grass into two synthetic turf fields — one full-sized field and a smaller field connected to it. With such a large scale construction project and the complexity of the field location, the school needed a trusted expert with the knowledge and qualifications to manage the entire project, including the synthetic turf portion. As its name suggests, Seven Hills sits on top of a large hill with the athletic fields located below. Its unique design posed geotechnical challenges and engineering accountabilities that The Motz Group worked with the design team to come up with the best, most cost effective solution to solve the site challenges.
The Play
As the General Contractor for the job, The Motz Group installed a state-of-the-art, multi-field complex that includes two synthetic turf fields, a large retaining wall, walking paths, parking lots, and access drives to the fields. Additionally, The Motz Group covered construction management for the fields by installing bleachers, fences, protective netting, lighting, and stormwater management facilities.
Although overseeing each technical detail was crucial to the project, The Motz Group also managed relationships with key individuals. The Motz Group worked closely with the field owner, architect, and engineer to oversee developing budgets and design options — ensuring the project stayed on schedule and within budget. That also meant securing subcontractors, through a competitive bidding process, to keep costs low while maintaining the highest level quality of work.
