7 Reasons Envirofill is the Smartest Choice in Green Sand Infill For Any Landscape Turf System

In part 1 of this blog post series, we discussed the differences between coated and non-coated green-colored turf infill. In Part 2, we’re taking a closer look at why Motz’s green-colored turf infill is superior to competing turf infill products.

Since green turf infill is the most popular color choice in landscape turf systems, it’s important to understand how green sand infill varies in production, coloring methods, and materials, which are all important factors to get the most of your artificial turf.

Let’s dive into the top 7 reasons why Envirofill is the best green-colored sand turf infill on the market.

The Top 7 Reasons Why Envirofill Is The Best Green-Colored Sand Turf Infill On The Market

1. Envirofill is the only synthetic turf infill with Microban antimicrobial protection.

We’ve teamed up with Microban, the global leader in antimicrobial technology. And it’s only found in one infill: Envirofill. Microban protects against the growth of microbes, bacteria, mold, mildew, and odor in your infill. Microban technology is infused in the proprietary coating of Envirofill turf infill and will never wear or wash off. Microban is a lifelong part of the product, working 24/7 to keep your loved ones safe during outside relaxation or adventure time!

2. Envirofill has proven pet odor reduction.

Thanks to the infusion of Microban in Envirofill’s coating, your artificial turf yard won’t be plagued by unpleasant pet odors. Envirofill uses Microban protection to control the release of ammonia from your pet’s urine by up to 99%, keeping the smell away, instead of masking it. Sand infills without Microban allow bacteria to break down pet urine, causing the ammonia odor to be released into the air.

BBI Test Labs conducted a test to evaluate various grand sands’ abilities to control ammonia-related odors. Below are the results for Envirofill (featured on the left) and another green sand infill (featured on the right) over the course of 24 hours.

The image featured on the left was taken at the beginning of the test (zero hours). The image featured on the right was taken after 24 hours.

In this lab test, synthetic urine was applied to the infill at the bottom of the test tubes. The presence of the color blue is a failure. The blue color that appears in the tubes on the right indicates the presence of ammonia, caused by the bacterial breakdown of the synthetic urine. After 24 hours, the green sand without adequate antimicrobial protection had allowed the formation of ammonia gas. Envirofill with Microban antimicrobial protection helps inhibit the bacterial breakdown of urine, thus helping prevent ammonia gas from forming.

3. Envirofill turf infill is non-toxic, and exempt from Prop 65 labeling.

Proposition 65 in California requires companies to inform consumers of the presence of chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm in their products. It requires businesses to warn consumers of exposure to these chemicals with warning labels on product packaging.

You will never find Prop 65 labeling on any true Envirofill product. Envirofill has been tested and confirmed as non-toxic and non-hazardous, making it exempt from Prop 65 labeling requirements. Currently, Envirofill is the only green sand infill on the market with this labeling exemption.

Envirofill’s Prop 65 testing was administered and evaluated by a third-party laboratory, Duke University’s Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine Office. Duke University’s OEM faculty are leading experts in the field of occupational and environmental medicine, community health and engagement, and population health and workforce research.

The following are examples of a prop 65 warning label and a prop 65 exemption label:

4. Envirofill’s durable coating protects the integrity of your artificial turf system.

Envirofill is well known as a durable turf infill product. One of the main reasons Envirofill is so durable is because it’s coated with acrylic, an exceptionally strong material. This acrylic coating allows Envirofill to withstand sun exposure and weather-related degradation. Not only does Envirofill’s durable acrylic coating protect the integrity of your infill, it can also protect your turf’s primary backing from ultraviolet radiation (UV rays), an added bonus when it comes to the performance and longevity of your turf system.

Due to the results of extensive testing we have conducted in the lab and on the field, we believe so strongly in the durability of Envirofill that we put our money where our mouths are and back Envirofill with the longest synthetic turf infill warranty on the market.

5. Envirofill’s coating compared to other coated sand infills.

In comparison to other coated sands, Envirofill is more durable, cleaner, and contains less dust due to its acrylic coating. The image below shows Envirofill next to other coated sand infills in water. It is very easy to compare stability, color, coating durability, and cleanliness/consistency when various turf infill products are placed in water.

As you can see, the other green coated sand infills release dust, are chunky or inconsistent in size, and their debris sometimes floats. Learn more about the comparison by watching this video.

6. Envirofill turf infill is easy to install.

Envirofill has solved the nagging issue of dust during the installation process. It is also one of the easiest and safest sand infills to install. Since Envirofill’s green coating completely encapsulates the sand, your installation crew will not breathe in the dust as they would installing other green sand infills. Featured below is a power broom from a generic green sand installation. The dust coming from the green sand product actually turned the black bristles of the power broom green. Now imagine all of this dust around your child, your employees, or in your lungs – it’s not a pretty picture! Check out more images of dust residue from this specific installation here
