FC Cincinnati Mercy Health Training Center
In May 2018, Major League Soccer (MLS), named FC Cincinnati (FCC) as the latest expansion team to join the league. FCC’s move to the majors included construction of a showcase training facility and youth academy. Desiring natural grass and synthetic turf playing surfaces at their new ground, meeting international standards for safety and performance, the club turned to the field experts at The Motz Group. During the planning phase, Motz worked in a design-assist role to support the project architect and civil engineer in developing field layouts, drainage and irrigation plans, netting and fencing systems, and curbing/adjacent hard surfaces. Recently named the Mercy Health Training Facility, the venue includes a full size SportGrass™ synthetic turf field and 250,000 square feet of Eclipse™ stabilized ryegrass. About 150,000 square feet of the Eclipse™ was farm produced and installed as mature sod and the remainder was grown-in on site. All field construction was handled by Motz. Play began, as scheduled, in the spring of 2019.
